A cute couple with a cute love story at the Montopolis Bridge

Brooke and Chris are one of the cutest couples I’ve had the pleasure of photographing and their love story is just as cute! They met on Bumble in 2016. Chris asked Brooke for a podcast recommendation and she suggested the most obscure podcast - to which he replied, “I’ve listened to every episode.” He then suggested a podcast to which Brooke replied back, “I’ve listened to every episode.” They instantly knew they would get along and (pre-pandemic) going to live podcast tapings was one of their favorite things to do together.

Their first date was a little Sunday Funday afternoon on Rainey Street followed by watching LeBron James win his first NBA championship. Chris assumed the date would end before the game, but here they are five years later - still head-over-heels in love and still walking their dogs on the Montopolis Bridge! I had the privilege of shooting their engagement photos and hearing their love story at the Montopolis Bridge in Austin, Texas.

A non-traditional, but romantic proposal

At the beginning of the pandemic, they both sat down and mapped out their five-year plan. They agreed that they wanted to get married in the summer of 2021 and immediately booked their venue. There was no sexy proposal in the traditional down-on-one-knee-pull-out-a-ring sense. But together, they made the commitment to build their life together. Brooke quoted an article on the Montopolis Bridge from The Atlantic that explains who they are as a couple:

"A marriage is, ideally, a partnership. It’s two people, playing life as a team. The proposal sets the tone for that partnership: Will you make the biggest, most important life decisions together, or will you make them apart? Talking about the kind of future you want to build, agreeing that it’s time, take the next step, imagining where you’ll be, as a couple, 50 years down the road—that’s romantic. I’d take that conversation over a grand gesture, any day."

A postponed wedding date and a hopeful future

At the beginning of 2021, they made the difficult decision to postpone their wedding from June 2021 to April 2022. They wanted to have all of their friends and family together and ensure that everything was not only safe but hopefully a fun and enjoyable visit to Austin for their out-of-town guests. Brooke and Chris are looking forward to having a maskless dance floor and passing appetizers in 2022! This was such a sweet and romantic Montopolis Bridge engagement shoot! We had such a good time at multiple locations with Montopolis Bridge holding a special place in their hearts. I’m so excited for this couple and their beautiful life together!
