Penelope and Austin had so much fun in their stylish, romantic take on a Texan and Filipino wedding at the Rose Mansion B&B in Austin, Texas. Penelope said that when she was planning her wedding, she wanted it “to feel like you just walked into the decor section of Urban Outfitters. I wanted it to be a moody, tropical paradise!” She achieved that look through working with the incredible Austin Flower Company, who designed the bouquets and the altar installation with a simplicity and flair, keeping to two simple tones.

Looking back on the day, Penelope said that “The best part for us was the reveal. Seeing my husband dressed up with a fancy man bun will forever be engrained in my memory. When he turned around, I saw his eyes light up. I could tell he was nervous the entire week, but our nerves melted away after seeing each other.

Filipino Wedding Traditions Get Fresh Life

When they were thinking about their ceremony, the self described ‘very non-traditional’ Penelope and Austin knew that they still wanted to incorporate elements of a Filipino wedding, including the candle, veil and cord. Together, Penelope and Austin lit separate tapers and used them to light a unity candle together. They stood side by side as members of the family pinned a veil over both of them and draped a cord around their shoulders. It was special to see these meaningful symbols of union from a traditional Catholic Filipino wedding get translated here into something that felt like Penelope and Austin’s style!
