Ben and Alison wanted their Barr Mansion wedding to be classic, timeless and elegant. But they also wanted to thoughtfully incorporate personal, sentimental elements that meant a lot to them. They love music, and their first date was at a concert. So, they spent a lot of time building (epic!) playlists and choosing songs for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and the reception. A good friend of theirs agreed to be their DJ. They made our own table numbers out of vinyl records, and their guest book was a framed record of the song Alison walked down the aisle to (We're Going to Be Friends by the White Stripes).
The color palette for this Barr Mansion wedding was neutral, with plenty of black, white and gray with a few splashes of crimson and blush pink. Alison and Ben incorporated their personalities in so many little details. They custom-designed their own invitations, commissioned the banners their ringbearers carried, had a good friend design the illustration on their awesome wedding koozie party favors, and their signature drinks were named after their pets. These small personal touches were some of their favorite parts of this Barr Mansion wedding; and their guests absolutely loved it.
The short, but traditional Chinese tea ceremony was one of the most special parts of the day to shoot. As Alison explains, ‘It was such an endearing way of incorporating my Chinese culture into an otherwise, western wedding. The tea ceremony is a respectful way of honoring the elders in your family and they bless your marriage in return. It meant a lot that not only my family members, but Ben's parents, aunts and uncles wanted to participate in this tradition too.’
